North Hutchinson Island, north of the Fort Pierce Inlet, includes lagoon-side neighborhoods such as Fort Pierce Shores, Queens Cove, Coastal Cove and Coral Cove. The lagoon here is part of the Indian River–Vero Beach to Fort Pierce Aquatic Preserve, an Outstanding Florida Water of seagrass, oyster reef and mangrove.

Two shorelines on one island
Lagoon-side seawalls face aquatic-preserve, seagrass, mangrove and manatee rules. Ocean-side owners work under FDEP’s Coastal Construction Control Line program. FDEP placed Hurricane Nicole’s 2022 landfall at Avalon Beach on this island.
A 2021 county funding request sought to remove 578 septic systems on North Hutchinson Island, 340 directly on the lagoon. What could the work cost?
Price lagoon-side and ocean-side work separately; beachfront armoring needs a CCCL permit and turtle-season timing.
Published examples are attributed context from Treasure Coast and nearby South Florida sources, not a Port St. Lucie average or a quote. Your wall needs a property-specific written scope.

A North Hutchinson Island checklist
Use these steps to gather records and prepare a property-specific conversation. Public records and project references do not describe the condition of your wall.
Pull the permit history
Search the address on the city or county permit portal for seawall, dock and lift permits and their final inspections before the first site visit.
Find the CCCL
Determine whether work is seaward of the control line.
Map seagrass and mangroves
Lagoon-side work must avoid seagrass and follow mangrove rules.
Follow sewer project timing
Ask the county how planned sewer work affects your waterfront.
